How to Troubleshoot a Singer Sewing Machine

Keep Your Sewing Machine Oiled

After applying, sew on some scrap fabric for a few minutes so that any extra oil is eradicated. This will make sure your machine is ready to go when you’re working with your high-quality fabrics.   

Check Your Threading 

If you’re noticing a lot of built-up thread on the underside of your fabric after completing a project, you may have installed the upper thread incorrectly. 

Test your threading by holding a piece of thread in your hands with the foot pedal up and pulling on the thread. If your thread is installed correctly, you should be able to easily pull the thread from the machine without resistance. 

Next, press down on your foot pedal. With the pedal engaged, you should no longer be able to pull the string freely. If you can still pull the thread freely with the foot pedal pressed down, you’ll know that your upper thread is placed incorrectly. 

Always Use the Correct Needle Size 

Different fabrics require different needle sizes for your sewing machine to make a proper stitch that will last. That’s why it’s important to make sure that you’re using the right needle size for your project. 

If you’re experiencing issues with your machine while working on a project – especially if you notice inconsistent stitching or thread looping – your needle size may be the problem.
